本系退休教師楊璧禎教授及其妹及川碧慈小姐，捐贈本系新台幣壹佰零二萬元做為五專部學生清寒優秀獎學金，每學期一名，獎學金兩萬元整。

Retired professor Yang Bi-Zhen and her sister donated NT$1,020,000 to fund a scholarship for junior college students in financial need.  Each semester a candidate will be selected and awarded NT$20,000.

Mr. Fang Wei-Jie (John) from the two-year college program has passed the entrance exams of the Graduate Institute of Engineering(Cognitive Psychology Stream) of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and the Graduate School of Applied Foreign Languages of National Sun Yat-Sen University.

Second-stage online registration for the second semester will take place February 25 through March 3.  Students should note the registration time and check the results of the first-stage online registration.  The department office will not help handle any delays.  If there are any further questions, please inquire at the department office.

On Friday December 07, nearing the end of the year 2007, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages hosted a Christmas event. As many as sixty-five people participated in this event, which included a festive meal of foods traditionally served on Christmas in Western cultures – a feast with turkey, gingerbread cookies, pumpkin pies, and cranberries. This was followed by a fascinating talk given by Mr. Leon VanderPol who shared with the audience the origins of many Christmas traditions. After his talk, the audience was challenged with an oral quiz about these tradition. Other highlights of the event included an awesome Christmas lightshow and a holiday Ho, Ho, Ho greeting from Chair Chou, who, in keeping with the holiday spirit, wore an extraordinary turkey hat. And who can forget Assistant Chen's spontaneous entertainment in a Halloween ghost mask and a geisha dress? What a merge of cultures! This event offered a chance for AFL people not only to gain an acquaintance with western culture but also to get together as a family. Having a festivity with marvelous people and food was really one of the best ways to celebrate the beauty of Christmas.
